With the cooktop knobs being plastic, the film coating peeled off very quickly and has left me very disappointed with an expensive appliance. Called and asked for replacement and was told I had to buy them. Not impressed at all and I would not recommend this appliance.

We have had this range for 2 years and absolutely love it! More pluses than minuses for sure, but have had some of the same issues as others: the knobs suffered cosmetic damage immediately. I was very surprised that they are plastic, not stainless--it never occurred to me that that would be the case for a quality product. We also found that the stainless scratches easily at the back of the grates--they must be lifted off completely to clean, not tilted up. We have also lost a few of the little rubber grate "bumpers" and have not been able to locate replacements. All that said, these are somewhat minor issues, and I would highly recommend this cooktop keeping in mind that some delicate treatment is required.

Low quality materials for a luxury cooktop

I would not buy this cooktop again. I love it but the materials are awful. Low quality. The copper knobs are discoloring, color coming off, stainless steel top scratches way to easily and the decals run off with just using soap and water. It™€™s priced as a luxury cooktop but materials say otherwise. The burners are great. Also, single, childless here - so it™€™s not like the cooktop gets used to cook family dinners. Typically use 1-2 burners -2x a week - so expected better quality.

Disappointing stainless steel quality

This is the worst cooktop for scratching even when using a clean microfiber cloth it scratches. So disappointing. I knew when I was looking at cooktops that knobs on the top were going to be difficult to keep clean and I was right. Would not buy another one. Stainless steel is so poor quality!!

I am very disappointed in the cooktop. This was a very expensive cooktop, from what I thought was a top manufacturer. However, the burners do not work correctly. The flame comes out very uneven and extremely high on one side. After using the burner twice, the cap looks like it has been used for years due to the uneven flams. I called in to notify GE of this issue and they sent a tech out. He spent 4-5 minutes at my house, was a bit rude, and said he would order a new burner for the one burner. He did nothing for issues with the other burners. The new burner came and it was the wrong size. In addition to the burners, the overall stainless steel feels cheap. It scratches very easy and is already stained from normal use (with no spills).

I love everything about my new cooktop. I just really wish there was less potential for scratching the stainless steel. I realize that there are rubberized pads on the stainless steel for the grates, however if one doesn™€™t place the grate exactly on them, you can definitely scratch the surface. Just be really careful!

Knobs are setup too high so any thing hot placed on the stove top near the knobs (eg, baking sheet from the oven) melts the knobs. The burners are effective all though it would be nice to adjust the burner down lower as it is sometimes too hot.

Knob colors melt off

The $200+ upgrade brushed copper knobs are merely a copper color paint, and it melts off when a hot pot it placed on the middle burner. See picture showing what looks like white plastic under the copper paint. It makes the stove top look cheap, and I cannot constantly replace a $200+ knob every time a hot put gets too close to the knobs.

One burner won't shut off. Most lettering is GONE!

We initially loved the look and functionality of the product, especially the griddle feature. However, the front left burner (under the griddle) stopped working after less than a year. The gas wouldn't turn off, which was a safety risk. We eventually stopped it and have not used it again. Another annoying problem is that nearly ALL of the lettering has rubbed off around the knobs. Even the word "CAFE" is almost completely gone. We also purchased the bronze-colored knobs to match our kitchen hardware and some of the coloring has faded away, which is frustrating because this was an extra purchase. I sincerely hope your company can assist.

I really liked this cooktop until the three middle knobs melted when a pan on the main center burner touched the knobs. I tried to clean the knobs for several days thinking there was something staining them. Then I realized they were melted. They look and feel like steel but they are plastic! I called GE CAFE for help and they said they had never heard of this and did not offer any assistance other than new knobs at $40 each. I read numerous reviews after about this problem. The most disappointing part was the lack of help from GE customer service.

Not happy with this product! I have had this for 16 months and the letters near the knobs are all coming off and look terrible. All of the burner pieces also faded and are very discolored even though we take excellent care of it. It also scratches very easy. Although a new cooktop was provided I have to pay for labor and the new replacement arrived with scratches.

Perfect replacement for basic builder appliances

Problem, newly built home with 10-year warranty had basic appliances that did not meet my cooking needs. Any replacement had to install within current kitchen design with no changes to electrical/gas or builder warranty would be voided. I updated all my appliances to Cafe once the one year warranty on the original appliances had expired. This 36" gas cooktop replaced same from competitor that did not meet my needs and was a poor design. I ordered Cafe 36" gas cooktop with copper dials which turned out to be stunning. Two left burners with same output and grill settings was perfect for my Swiss Diamond grill which also fits this cooktop without overlapping the dials. Another plus, dials with light when on and having two power burners instead of only one. I also noticed that every burner lights immediately and so far has never gone out. Old cooktop took several attempts to light and I also had several times where burners went out when going to a low flame. My orginal cooktop was only 1-year old but this Cafe cooktop has proven to be superior in function as well as in design. I love it and highly recommend.

Disappearing lettering leaves me disappointed

Like many other reviews, my lettering is gone. I have never had a cooktop that the lettering just disappears. It™€™s disappointing to see the responses from GE that really don™€™t offer a solution unless you replace the entire top. I would be reluctant to spend the money to replace the top as there is no reassurance the problem has been fixed and the lettering would not fade again. I do like the other features of the cooktop and my other Cafe appliances.

Knobs are $200 to replace because it is cheap silver paint over plastic that gets burnt off from burner locations. Good grief, GE...you charge a fortune for your products. Use parts that are actual metal or charge $19.99 for replacing all 5 because that is what they are worth. Otherwise not a bad cooktop. I just don't get cutting corners that passes the cost onto customers for replacement parts that you KNOW will go bad. Do better.
